This project is so simple, very little new instruction is needed.
Tweet It! Vase Wrap
We used a 7¾” tall glass cylinder vase. If you save vases from floral deliveries, you may already have one of these in your Stash. You can also usually purchase one for under $1 at a thrift shop, or buy one new at the craft store.
- Cut a piece of fabric as your base. We used a scrap of Lime Ta Dot from Michael Miller Fabrics. Measure the height of your vase and add 1″ for hemming, then measure the circumference by wrapping with a flexible tape measure. Add 1″ to that measurement.
- Fussy cut a detail from fabric. We cut this sweet little bird from White Woodcut Garden, part of the Woodland Delight collection by Paula Prass for Michael Miller Fabrics. You can cut any shape you want from the fabric of your choice.
- Follow the steps in the Raw-Edge Appliqué section of our How to Applique article.
- We added a Hand appliquéd red felt heart to complete the message.
- Make a small simple Hem in the top and bottom of the wrap.
- Right sides together and using a ½” Seam allowance, stitch your fabric together to form a tube. Trim Seam with pinking shears. Press Seam open.
- Turn the tube Right side out and slide the wrap onto your vase. If you did a good job of measuring, the vase wrap will be nice and snug.
Flower Vase Wrap
We used a 6″ tall glass cylinder vase, but you can adapt this wrap to any cylindrical vase.
- Cut a piece of fabric as your base. We used a scrap of white cotton twill. Measure the height of your vase and add 1″ for hemming, then measure the circumference by wrapping it with a flexible tape measure. Add 1″ to that measurement.
- Cut two 1¼” Binding strips the circumference of your vase plus 1″ in length.
- Fold and Press under one long side of each Binding strip.
- Apply the Binding strip. Stitch first to the front using a 3/8″ Seam. Then wrap the Binding over the edge and Edgestitch front to back through all layers. Press. If you are unfamiliar with Binding, Bias tape: How to Make It & Attach It has a helpful section. Scroll down to Attaching Bias tape to a straight edge for some helpful tips.
- Add your Appliqué in the same manner as the Tweet It! Vase Wrap above.
- Right sides together and using a ½” Seam allowance, stitch your fabric together to form a tube. Trim Seam with pinking shears. Press Seam open.
- Turn the tube Right side out and slide the wrap onto your vase.
