Take your laptop or other electronic device on-the-go in this stylish Quilted Slimline Device Case. It’s fashionable on the outside; smartly padded on the inside, so your devices are stored safely, protected from scratches and dust, and can be easily shuttled from here to there.

It’s available now in our S4H Etsy Shop – make it for yourself or give it as a gift.

There are two layered pockets inside: one padded pocket for the main device plus a divided overlay pocket for an additional device or use it to store tools and cords.

No electronics that need to travel? Use the case as a classic portfolio for your work papers, notepads, pens, magazines, and more. Or make one as an oversize clutch for every day or a night on the town.

As an ePattern, our Quilted Slimline Device Case includes instructions and photos to take you through each step of the construction, including how to precisely layer and edgestitch as well as how to create the decorative faux leather tassel that hangs from a D-ring at the center of the fold-over flap. This embellishment is optional, but it is a striking design feature that really makes the case stand out… and it’s easy to do!

We used a sateen weight cotton for the exterior and a lightweight cotton canvas for the interior. We suggest you use similar substrates in order to get the best finished structure with the stabilization layers we’ve outlined in our instructions.

As you can see from the photographs of our lovely sample, choosing a bold floral in combination with a striking geometric can give the case a unique and stunning look. When you choose your own fabric and make it yourself, there won’t be another one like it! For more inside information about fabric selection, check out our free tutorial: Top 10 Designer Tips for Blending Colors and Prints.

As with our site-based projects, there are additional links within the downloadable PDF pattern that take you to our free, in-depth tutorials for specialty techniques, such as fussy cutting and how to perfectly match a pocket to its background panel.

The Case is sized for a 13” laptop. Remember, standard laptop dimensions refer to the diagonal measure of the screen. We used a MAC 13” laptop to design our pattern, which has an outside measurement of: 12” x 8”.  With the flap closed, the Device Case finishes at approximately 10” high x 14¼” wide. When open, the main pocket is 9¼” deep, the overlay pocket is 6” deep,  and the flap extends 8¼”above the pocket.  All cuts are simple rectangles and could be proportionately reduced or enlarged to best fit your device.

As many of you know, keeping a small business alive and growing these days is challenging – to say the least. Project creation costs are rising, sourcing fabrics and notions is difficult, and competition for sponsorship dollars can be fierce. We’re grateful to be able to explore other opportunities such as our Etsy Shop offerings, and we appreciate your support and confidence. Please know our goal is always to keep virtually all of our site content free and the cost of our Etsy Shop patterns affordable.

The full Quilted Slimline Device Case ePattern is just $5.50, which is a fraction of the cost of most independent and commercial patterns.

There are three PDF files included in this $5.50 pattern purchase. As a digital download, we understand you are providing the paper and ink and so have included flexible printing alternatives. The first file contains all the steps plus all the full color instructional photos; it’s a great option for viewing on your computer or other digital device to fully understand the construction process. The second file is condensed to black and white with just the steps (no photos) to make printing even more efficient. The third file has all the pattern/template elements required. All three files can be printed on either US Letter paper or A4 paper, using Adobe Acrobat Reader (a free program). No materials are included.
