Birds on a Wire Appliqué Pillow

Sweet tweets! A flock of very colorful birds has landed on this pretty pillow. As they alight on a pair of delicate wires, we like to imagine they’re talking about how much they’re enjoying their status as an exclusive pattern in our S4H Etsy Shop. 

You’ll pick six favorite florals to create these fine feathered friends, then appliqué them in place on a pair of stitched telephone lines. The pillow finishes at a generous 24” x 24” with custom piping all around.

As an ePattern, it includes complete step-by-step instructions and photos to take you through each step of the construction. It does not include materials. 

You’ll find our favorite appliqué tips and techniques to achieve a pro finish, including graduated stitching to form the birds’ beaks. You’ll also make and add custom piping, learn how to taper for crisp corners, and get complete steps to how to create a button placket closure.

Dive into your scrap stash or leftover precuts to find colorful prints to use to cut out the six beautiful birds. We show you how we carefully positioned a floral motif on each bird to act as its “eye” so all the birds are glancing out at you.

Templates are included as two separate PDFs, one for all SIX bird shapes, and a second that is a full placement template.

As with our site-based projects, there are additional links within the downloadable PDF pattern that take you to our free in-depth, step-by-step tutorials for specialty techniques, like appliqué, piping, hand stitching, and more.

There are four PDF files included in an exclusive pattern. As a digital download, we understand you are providing the paper and ink and so have included several flexible printing alternatives. The first file contains all the steps and all the full color instructional photos; it’s a great option for viewing on your computer or other digital device to fully understand the construction process. The second file is condensed to just the steps (no photos) to make printing even more efficient. And, the third and fourth files are the template pieces. Separating out the templates is especially helpful, allowing you to be able to print only these and simply refer to your computer or other digital device for all the instructions. All the files can be printed on either US Letter paper or A4 paper, using Adobe Acrobat Reader (a free program).
