"Don't be afraid of colour." Words to live by from master textile artist, Kaffe Fassett. And when our friends at Renaissance Ribbons sent us a photo of this stunning Kaffe Fassett tote, designed for them by Elaine Schmidt, we were bowled over by its vibrant palette and patterns. The bag features both Fassett's beautiful fabric and his rich, jacquard ribbons. Elaine was kind enough to allow us to run her instructions as a Guest Tutorial. You'll love it... like tossing a rainbow over your shoulder.

Elaine Schmidt is a Jane-of-all-trades with extensive experience as a craft designer, product development consultant, fiber artist, educator, spokesperson, and author of the amazing book The Complete Photo Guide To Ribbon Crafts. We've worked with the creative team at Renaissance Ribbons on a number of projects (see below) and each time, we're thrilled with the quality, variety and elegance of the ribbons they carry... they're often as beautiful from the back as from the front! Renaissance does not sell online from their site, but you can find their ribbons at: FatQuarterShop, Fabric.com and beebolt.

The Kaffe Fassett bag tutorial has been created as a .PDF file. Click the image below to download the Kaffe Fassett Ribbon Tote. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader, which is a free program. The .PDF has a number of large, colorful photos and, depending on your connection, may take a bit to download. Please be patient.

Hi acwink - In an interview, he describes it this way: "Kaffe Fassett sounds like Safe Asset."
