These last months have rushed by faster than a new seam ripper through fresh cotton. We finally found a moment to take stock of this year’s Great Giveaway winners. Wow! We’ve sent out prize packages to fourteen lucky Sew4Home followers from eight different promotions. As always, thanks to everyone who entered. Find out who, from where, won what!
Our friends at Fat Quarter Shop are experts when it comes to all things quilting, but that is certainly not where their creativity ends! You may have seen our recent article about their full selection of Cross Stitch products and projects, and of course they have an excellent array of options in substrates other than quilting cotton, such as: linen, denim, flannel, luxury plush, and double gauze. They surprised us once again recently by putting together a fun tutorial in one of our own favorite categories: bags and cases. The FQS WIP (work in progress) Project Bag is fast, easy, and fun. Check out the video tutorial below.
We wish you a relaxing day of celebration and reflection.
"May we think of freedom, not as the ability to do as we please, but as the opportunity to do what is right." -- Peter Marshall
Machine sewing is our stock in trade at Sew4Home, but sometimes, stepping back to take handmade at its root meaning is a personal, tactile experience that is both relaxing and rewarding. Our friends at Fat Quarter Shop recently let us know about their new cross-stitch focus that includes a dedicated YouTube channel, special pattern and floss kits, handy accessories, and more. We picked a few of our favorites to give you a sneak peek at all the fun. Read on so you can “take your sewing by the hand.”
“I don’t have time for that.” “No one will notice.” “I’ll fix it later.” A million excuses usually lead to a million regrets. We all make mistakes, and sometimes stuff just happens beyond our control. But some mistakes can be avoided with proper planning, attention to detail, and the wisdom to slow down. It’s no surprise that one of the most famous adages about time management comes from the world of sewing: “A stitch in time, saves nine!” Recently, a stark distinction has developed between handmade and homemade. Handmade carries the stamp of artisan craftsmanship – pride in a job well done. Homemade has the connotation of something slapdash and cheap – just good enough to get by. To us … if it’s created with your own two hands, you deserve to be proud of the results, so we prefer to think of it as professional or unprofessional. Read on for the ten most common mistakes to avoid to make sure you go pro!
THIS GREAT GIVEAWAY CLOSED 03/01/19. THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO PARTICIPATED.

As we launch into another year of Sew4Home projects, it’s time to take quick look back at a few of the most popular from 2018. It’s always a little amazing to see how many we’ve done, and it’s a challenge to narrow the list of favorites. This year, we decided to put them into chronological order so it’s a true trip down memory lane. We bet there are a few you might have missed along the way, which means we’re already adding to your 2019 must-make lists. Did we miss any of your favorites? Are there some ideas you’re dying for us to explore this year? Leave us a comment below; we always love to hear from you, and our You Asked 4 It list is one of the first places we turn when considering new ideas.
