We're Coming to a City Near You! Introducing the Sew4Home Sewing Escape Retreats

Printer-friendly versionPDF version

In our 2016 Sewing resolutions, we teased you a little bit about this new adventure. Our number one resolution was: To connect with YOU in even more ways. Today, we're pleased to announce one of the most exciting ways we'll be doing just that this year: the Sew4Home Sewing Escape sewing retreat. We've partnered with Janome America as well as some of our favorite providers of notions, fabric, and sewing tools to bring the Sew4Home experience directly to you in fun-filled, multi-day events.

NOTE: THE PAGE IS LIVE WITH THE LATEST DETAILS. CLICK HERE TO LOOK FOR LOCATIONS AND TO REGISTER.

We love virtually interacting with our amazing Sew4Home community every day, but we can't wait to get together in meet-ups around the country. This will be your opportunity to hang with like-minded sewing enthusiasts to sew, learn, and simply enjoy two and a half days of creativity guided by master sewing instructors.

Several popular Sew4Home projects were selected and then adapted to an in-person learning presentation. We've upscaled them with new embellishments and features, including monogramming, matchstick quilting, in-the-hoop embroidery, and more. We'll also be concentrating on many of the basics that form the foundation of great sewing, like trim techniques, seam finishing, special stitch settings, and the ever popular-yet-feared: zipper insertion! So while this first series of retreats is aimed at those newer to the world of sewing, there will be something for everyone to learn. But most importantly, it's all done in the style of Sew4Home you've all come to love and look forward to online every weekday.

Janome dealers will be hosting the events at special venues around the country. The calendar was just opened up last week in Las Vegas at the sewing machine industry's largest trade show, and we were thrilled at the enthusiasm of dealers to sponsor the Sewing Escape events. We have dates on the books for California, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Alabama, and more.

Every detail of the Sewing Escape retreats is designed to be both fun and inspiring. There'll be a kick-off presentation on opening night to share a few of our sewing secrets, explain where we turn for inspiration, and give you the tools to "master mixology" in order to create a look that is uniquely yours. You'll receive an awesome swag bag filled with fabric and notions, and you'll meet the sewing machine that will be yours for the duration of the retreat.

Over the course of the event, you'll make three beautiful projects: a whimsical quilted patchwork pillow, a chic and roomy teardrop tote, and you'll learn to embroider in-the-hoop as you make your own custom-monogrammed zippered pouch. Everything will be provided – from the designer fabric to the pins and scissors – including the personal help of excellent instructors to walk you through each step. You'll leave with three finished projects you can use right away and proudly show off.

Over the next few months, the final planning and preparation will be finessed. We'll be opening up a special area here on the Sew4Home site with a complete calendar showing when and where the Sewing Escape retreats will be held. You'll be able to register online to reserve your space (we're keeping the size of these first retreats small for more personal attention, so you'll want to sign up right away), and we'll be bringing you images and more information along the way.

We can't wait to Escape with you!

How about Canada... Vancouver? The CDN dollar makes this very attractive for people coming from the U.S. and vice versa for us attending in an American location.

@Ev - Since we're partnering with Janome America as our hosting dealers, we don't have an Canada dates this time around. Maybe they'll be new options for our next round!

I bought my Janome sewing machine at a Sew and Vacation fabric store in Mesa, AZ with access to large class rooms :)

@Truffles - Dealer enthusiasm has been great! Each event is designed to be in a unique location away from the store environment so it really is a "getaway" - keep watching for news.

I am a sewing instructor in Tucson (retired educator) and was wondering if you will need any instructors for your retreats.  I am a firm believer of retreats and they are absolutely the best!  Creative juices flow and comradery develops with common interests.

@Linda - Thanks for the offer! We have our S4H team in place with Janome's help, but be watching for what may be held in your area. Each hosting dealer will be bringing instructions as well.

I have the perfect location for one of the Sewing Escape retreats--the Hampton Roads area of southeastern Virginia.  There's Virginia Beach (great place to work on your tan/walk on the beach), Williamsburg (Colonial history), Jamestown (Jamestown Settlement), Yorktown (Revolutionary War), and plenty of Civil War history scattered throughout the region.  Your event would be extremely well-attended, as there are many talented sewers and Quilter's in this region of the U.S. Please seriously consider this area for one of your awesome retreats (yes, I'm begging)!

@Rudy's mom - I love these comments that are their own little travel tips! You are so sweet to let us know (and to beg)

Rudy's Mom is right!  The entire Hampton Roads area would be a great location!  We've got great convention centers, the beach, lots of touristy things to do but most of all, so many sewists in this area.  I'll beg, too!
