Tall and slim, this handsome messenger bag features a spot-on combination of navy, red, and white plaid flannel against a rich navy canvas. Casual and fun for everyday and anywhere you need to go, the bag works well for for either guys or gals. This is the sixth project in our S4H Maker’s Club, available exclusively at participating Janome Dealers across the US and Canada. With this latest custom design, Club members will learn how to create two types of straps, insert push locks, add piping, and get the lowdown on the professional details that can take your bag making skills to the next level. Read on to find out more about the project and how you may be able to join a Club in your area.
The clean lines and modern colors of our Maker’s Club Messenger Bag are reminiscent of Ralph Lauren® classic style: elegant yet understated, traditional and timeless. In fact, one of the skills we’re explaining in this Club project is how to expertly mix colors, prints, and textures to create a fabulous finished look. Our choices are from Robert Kaufman Fabrics, and include a Big Sur Canvas in Navy, a Kobe Twill in Bone, and the striking Durango Plaid Flannel in Americana.
As mentioned above, these Maker’s Club projects are exclusive to Janome dealers, but we introduce each one right here on the website to keep you up-to-date on all the inspiration. Reach out to your local Janome dealer in the US or Canada for more information on how you can sign up.
One of the signature features of our design is the double push locks on the full flap closure. Club members will learn how easy it can be to conquer hardware installation.
The instructions also show how to prepare an inner foam core that provides both extra protection of the contents and great structure. The bag finishes at a slim 10” wide x 12” high x 3” deep.
There are seven Club projects in this first season of the Maker’s Club, many of which include special extras, such as appliqué templates, embroidery designs, and/or special patterns. All the projects have S4H’s famously trendy yet easy-to-sew instructions presented by your Janome dealer.
To create our samples, we worked with the Janome 4120QDC – a strong mid-range model that is well equipped and intuitively designed. Adding this bag’s piping details as well as the clever corner accents was super precise thanks to a seven-piece feed dog system and smooth Janome power. The extra-high presser foot lift was excellent when it came to sewing across the thick layers of fabric and foam.
From bags to baskets to linens and more, S4H Maker’s Club members across the US and Canada are creating clever projects and learning pro techniques. We’re almost to the end of our first year of Maker’s Club magic. We hope you’ll contact your Janome America dealer or your Janome Canada dealer to become a S4H Maker’s Club member. If your local dealer isn’t on board yet, let him/her know you're interested. The more requests we have about the Club, the more likely we can continue and expand Club project options as well as add more locations.
If you’re a regular Sew4Home visitor, you know virtually all our content is free to you as the end user. But that doesn’t mean it’s free to produce. In fact, the costs surrounding the creation of high quality, on-trend project tutorials, patterns, sample construction, photography, and instructions go up and up and up every year. Our wonderful sponsors help off-set that, but we’re excited to be able to investigate other opportunities as well. It’s all about being able to continue to bring you what you love.
