Dritz Lookbooks: Clever Ideas that Inspire You to Take Action

Printer-friendly versionPDF version

Here at Sew4Home, we’re all about inspiration. And because we all respond to different visions, styles, colors, and embellishments.… the more ideas the better! We recently visited with our friends from Dritz Sewing at their headquarters in Spartanburg, South Carolina. There was inspiration around every corner, but we were especially excited to learn more about their Dritz® Lookbook series that debuted earlier this year and has already built to four fun issues. Each online magazine is chockfull of inspiring project concepts as well as great tips and innovative ways to use Dritz hardware. Read on to get a sneak peek inside our favorites, then use the handy links to click through to all the Books. They’re free!

The four issues of the current Dritz Lookbooks cover DIY Holiday Ideas, Tote Bags, Steampunk Cosplay, and Home Décor. You can access all four online anytime with a simple click. Once open on your screen, use the arrows to digitally page forward and backwards through the beautiful spreads – just like you’d read a traditional magazine.

The Lookbooks are very comprehensive, containing from 18 to 58 pages of creative content per issue. Speaking with the Dritz coordinator on the project, Kim Buffington, we learned that every issue gets bigger and better as they learn to take advantage of this very approachable and inspirational format. “The digital magazine is very easy to review,” says Buffington. “It’s such a fresh, modern way to deliver inspiring content. We can reach so many people with information that’s available 24/7.”

We enjoyed browsing through all the issues, but based on our own editorial focus, we were, of course, particularly drawn to the issues on Tote Bags and Home Décor.

The Tote Bags issue shows you how one simple tote pattern can be augmented with pockets, straps, closures, and more to produce a myriad of different results. There are twenty unique bag ideas to review, each with stylish, yet simple, techniques that feature your favorite Dritz hardware. We especially loved the unique usage of metal rivets and grommets for everything from fabric embellishment to clever closures.

The Home Décor Lookbook does a wonderful job of taking your through the design process from initial inspiration to finished floor pillow… to name just one of the over a dozen different decorating ideas. You’ll love their idea for removing zipper teeth to allow a tighter finish at the head and tail of an exposed zipper.

Stepping outside our normal area of expertise, we fell head over heels... or maybe we should say hats over boots for the Cosplay Steampunk Lookbook. From corsetry to belting to embellishment collages, you've never seen Dritz notions like this. We love how ingenious it is to use hardware as if the pieces were tiny bits of sculpture. If you are costume crazy, this is a wonder ballroom.

What’s up next? Buffington tells us the latest Lookbook issue should be online by the end of November. “We’re super excited about this one. We have a whole new series of products that target the home décor enthusiast with specialty items that haven’t really been readily available before to the DIYer. Things like metal corners, ottoman legs, faux leather straps and handles, and more.”

Grab a cup of tea or coffee and your favorite digital device, then kick back for a bit o’ browsing through the creative landscape.

Check back often to see the latest Lookbook, and/or follow the Dritz Make Something blog for weekly creative project ideas and useful how-to product instructions.

We received compensation from Dritz for this project, and some of the materials featured here or used in this project were provided free of charge by Dritz.  All opinions are our own.

I too was particularly drawn to the Totes Lookbook.  There is so much inspiration within these pages.  I want to just sit and view all the Dritz hardware and imagine my next sewing project! Or really projects, like chips, you cant get just one.

Thank you for sharing the LookBooks with us.  Love them!
