The boxed floor cushion – it’s a home décor classic. Put your feet up, use them as extra floor seating for your next gathering of family and friends, place one in the corner of a generous sofa as a bold, bright accent. At a compact 18” x 18” x 4”, they’re similar in size to a larger throw pillow. Originally released as part of the Sew4Home Maker’s Club; this cushion pattern is now available exclusively in the S4H Etsy Shop

Remember when people thought the earth was flat? Then, when they kept sailing and didn’t fall off the edge, they discovered all sorts of amazing things! It’s the same with sewing. If you’re only willing to attempt flat projects, you’re missing out on all kinds of fun. And… you’re highly unlikely to fall off your sewing chair.

By using the right presser feet, pinning generously, and clipping seam allowances correctly, going from flat to fabulous is easier than you might think. With our easy, step-by-step instructions, you’ll learn to love dimensional sewing.

The pattern’s instructions show complete steps for how to assemble the pretty patchwork, how to make and attach piping, how to create hand tufting, and how to assemble it all into a 3-D box. As with our site-based projects, there are additional links within the downloadable PDF pattern that take you to our in-depth, step-by-step tutorials on the website for any specialty techniques.

The colorful top of each cushion is really a simple nine-patch made up of half-square triangles, four patch units, and hourglass units. The sidewalls are just varying sizes of rectangles seamed end to end. Stitch-in-the-ditch quilting holds it altogether and adds just the right soft dimension. All the patchwork blocks are easy enough even for beginning quilters. Extra photos and instructions break it down into simple steps.

Our patchwork design uses five solid quilting cottons, but we show you how to cleverly mix and match those fabrics to create two coordinating cushions. It’s such a fun project, you’ll want to make more than just two. They’d make a beautiful housewarming gift!

We are determined to keep the cost of our Etsy Shop patterns affordable, while maintaining the professional, thorough instructions and the gorgeous sample photography we’ve become known for throughout the sewing and craft industry. This full Tufted Patchwork Floor Cushions pattern set is just $5.50, which is an average of half the cost of most independent patterns, and a fraction of the cost of most commercial patterns.

There are two PDF files included in your $5.50 pattern purchase. As a digital download, we understand you are providing the paper and ink and so have included two flexible printing alternatives. The first file contains all the steps and all the full color instructional photos; it’s a great option for viewing on your computer or other digital device to fully understand the construction process. The second file is condensed to just the steps (no photos) to make printing even more efficient. Both files can be printed on either US Letter paper or A4 paper, using Adobe Acrobat Reader (a free program).

Thank you all for being so supportive and positive as we have begun to offer some of favorite patterns in our Etsy Shop. We work very hard to keep as much of our content as possible free to you as the end user. However, with project creation costs soaring and competition for sponsorship dollars fierce, we’re grateful to be able to explore other opportunities. It’s all about being able to continue to do what we love, in order to bring you what you love!
