This great out-and-about bag is a brand new pattern available in our Etsy Shop. You know how busy little ones can be; so it makes sense to free up your hands with a diaper bag that can also be worn as a backpack! Originally released as part of the exclusive Sew4Home Maker’s Club, this popular pattern is now available for purchase by all our Sew4Home fans and followers.
Not only do you get the two carrying options, our trendy design has a sleek, unisex style that gives the bag a professional look anyone would be comfortable using… because not everyone loves quilted totes emblazoned with duckies and bunnies – sometimes you want to travel with baby while still rockin’ a bit of urban flair.
Because babies and toddlers require a lot of accouterments when they venture out and about, we made sure there were plenty of places to stash everything you need. You get five exterior pockets, one with an exposed zipper, plus five pockets in the wipe-clean, water-resistant ripstop lining.
The pattern’s instructions include complete steps on how to create adjustable webbing straps with decorative stitching accents, an inset base, corded handles, an exposed zipper pocket, and a ripstop lining with both flat and elastic pockets.
As with our site-based projects, there are additional links within the downloadable PDF pattern that take you to our in-depth, step-by-step tutorials for specialty techniques, like boxing corners and creating your own piping.
Our beautiful bag finishes at 16” high x 12” wide x 6” deep and can be worn as a backpack or hand carried. Those cool adjustable straps are removable and the carry handles are corded for strength and softness.
There are three PDF files included in this $5.50 pattern purchase. As a digital download, we understand you are providing the paper and ink and so have included three flexible printing alternatives. The first file contains all the steps and all the full color instructional photos; it’s a great option for viewing on your computer or other digital device to fully understand the construction process. The second file is condensed to just the steps (no photos) to make printing even more efficient. And, the third file has the pattern pieces. Separating out the pattern pieces is especially helpful, allowing you to print only these and simply refer to your computer or other digital device for all the instructional steps. All the files can be printed on either US Letter paper or A4 paper, using Adobe Acrobat Reader (a free program).
If you’re a regular Sew4Home visitor, you know we work very hard to keep virtually all of our content free to you as the end user. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean it’s free to produce. In fact, costs surrounding the creation of high quality, on-trend project tutorials, patterns, sample construction, photography, instructions, and website support continue to increase every year. With competition for sponsorship dollars fierce, we’re grateful to be able to investigate other monetary opportunities. It’s all about being able to continue to do what we love, in order to bring you what you love!
We are determined to keep the cost of our Etsy Shop patterns affordable, while maintaining the professional and thorough instructions and gorgeous sample photography we’ve become known for thoughout the sewing and craft industry. This full Backpack Diaper Bag pattern set is just $5.50, which is a half the cost of most independent patterns, and nearly a quarter of the cost of many commercial patterns.
We were thrilled by your response to our first Maker’s Club pattern release: the Machine Mat & Notions Caddy. We appreciate your support, and we’ll be continuing to release other patterns as well as some fun printable gifts, such as hang tags and mini posters. We hope you enjoy these new additions.
