I think we can all agree little things tend to be pretty dang cute: babies, puppies, kittens, Barbie® shoes... but let's face it, sometimes you need BIG to take care of business. This fun storage bin lives up to its jumbo name. It's a large-and-in-charge fabric basket that's ready to take on your bigger storage tasks. From books to blankets to balls of yarn, if you have a lot to keep track of, this project is for you. We chose two bold fabrics: the exterior is a mid-weight canvas, the interior a standard quilting weight cotton. And what is that dynamite looking "rope" ringing the top and creating the handles? Piping cord! Inexpensive yet just the right soft and strong combo.
Need a last mintue gift? How about a super simple project for a beginning sewer? This kitchen linens classic gives you two projects in one: a set of napkins and a matching half apron in 100% cotton toweling. Pretty and popular! Toweling is a vintage style fabric that is usually pre-hemmed along the selvedge, so two of your seams are already done. That’s a darn good start to “super simple.”
The classic rolled clutch is a summertime favorite: lightweight, lovely, and just the right size. Often seen in woven straw, we created a version you can make yourself in fabric. Three flat panels cleverly wrap around and come together to produce the three dimensional roll. We used the Janome Horizon Quilt Maker Memory Craft 15000 for both construction and embroidery. It’s great to have one machine that can do both!
Can't you picture Harrison Ford slinging this amazing duffle over his shoulder as Indiana Jones?! We blended heavy cotton canvas and faux leather with webbing and brass zipper accents for the dashing exterior. Inside is a tough ripstop nylon lining. Even if you're not a world-renowned archeologist and adventurer, this bag is is great way to pack your stuff, whether you're heading across town to the gym or getting away for the weekend. It is a Sew4Home Classic Bag – one of our most popular! Father's Day is coming up, and this would make a very nice gift for your personal action hero. The combination of fabrics, colors, and textures has the perfect feel – a little bit retro and a whole lot cool.
One of the top searches recently on Pinterest is for passport covers. We’ve also seen several versions for sale on Flash Sites and at other popular retailers. Everyone must be on the go! For something this popular, there needs to be a quick and easy Sew4Home version. We have you (and your passport) covered. Using faux leather for the outside and quilting cotton for the inside, our little folders protect your passport from dirt and keep it flat. Two interior pockets hold it open to the appropriate page, and a stretchy elastic band keeps it shut. It's a great gift for Dads who travel!
This modern canvas bucket bag has great slouchy style and tough construction details, making it a good choice for men or women. It's a serious shoulder tote that's ready to head out into the elements. Load it up for a weekend adventure, use it as a holdall for gym gear, or simply sling it crossbody or over your shoulder for the trek into work each day. We were inspired by vintage rucksacks and European satchels to create a rugged design with strapping, topstitching, and an interesting lining fabric that adds a bit of fun on the inside.
There's nothing quite like grabbing a delicious catnap in a swinging hammock to finish off sunny day. But this time of year, a regular blanket can feel a bit too heavy. Why not whip up a summer-weight blanket in an incredibly soft, organic cotton sweatshirt knit? In fact, is there a certain someone you know who loves the nappin' life? Father's Day will be here soon, and a soothing, wrap-him-up blanket might be just the ticket. Our fast and easy project takes just a couple hours... he could be dozin' before you know it. We also show you how to make the personalized fabric tag shown in the bottom corner that tells Dad (or whomever is lucky enough to get the blanket) he's priceless.
Is there a guy in your life who should be crowned King of the Kitchen? We love Dad Chefs, and this apron is specially designed to suit their style. The body of the apron is made from tough canvas and features a full coverage outline. There are plenty of pockets because we know Dads like to tuck away their tools. And, we used flexible Dritz 1” Belting with hardworking Dritz hardware accents to make sure stress points are reinforced and the apron is easy to get on and off. Both the neck loop and the waist ties are adjustable to fit most sizes.
Oh! is for Ollie and Olivia Owl. This adorable stuffed pair is wondering, "Whoooooo wants a hug?" We provide all the pattern pieces you need to make one, two or an entire parliament. Yep... a group of owls is called a parliament. They must be wise indeed. These owl pals are a generous size for easy squeezing, and well as for laying your head for a little sleepy time nap. Each is approximately 18" tall x 16" wide, excluding ears, wings and feet. We especially love their big, bright eyes – they're staying wide awake so you can doze safe and sound. Originally making their debut on the site in 2014, this precious pair has continued to be one of our top stuffed toy projects.
I’m privileged to have my dad’s wallet. It’s a wide fold-over style in soft brown leather with several pockets; his name is embossed in gold along the top of one of them. I can remember him pulling a coin out of it to give to me to buy a special treat. Even with all the digital options out there for transacting purchases on your smart phone, I still like to carry a wallet. Although leather is traditional, today’s wallets come in all shapes and sizes and substrates. We’ve created ours in a pair of gorgeous quilting cottons with lots of fully-finished pockets and a zippered coin pocket in case you come across a treat you need. Although, it’s likely to take more than just one coin these days!
