Cool and Cozy Pet Bed - It's Reversible

Friday, 11 August 2017 1:00

If you're hanging out in the kitchen, chances are your favorite pet is hanging with you. Shouldn't he (or she) have a matching cushion? Pet psychologists have long warned that forcing your furry friend to sleep on a ratty old bedspread can lead to deep-seated resentments ... and hair-balls. I have no idea if that's true, but I liked pretending to be a pet psychologist. Back to the Pet Bed... ours flips over: one side is a cool cotton, the other side is cozy fleece. There's an easy-to-insert zipper in one side so you can remove the cover and toss it in the wash.

ScrapBusters: Triangle Pencil Case

Thursday, 10 August 2017 1:00

The pencil. Do you think it has nightmares about being chased by digital keyboards? There are so many convenient electronic ways to jot a quick note, send a message, or write down your innermost thoughts. But I still love my pencils. And, recent studies have shown the act of handwriting, instead of typing on a keyboard, is actually better for your brain. It activates a unique neural circuit, which makes learning easier. So, if you needed an excuse other than “extreme cuteness” to give our Triangle Pencil Case a try, you can now put it down as a brain booster.

Long Bolster & Square Pillow Set

Wednesday, 09 August 2017 1:00

The way you put together the fabrics in your projects can tell a little story. Our pillow pair does just that. In our story, an absent-minded French lepidopterist (butterfly specialist) is on his way to collect the final rare butterfly missing from his collection. He checks his watch at the subway stop, adjusts his spectacles, grabs his battered valise, and jumps aboard the train as it disappears under the streets of New York. And you thought it was just a set of pillows! We added some great texture and dimension with natural cotton webbing and twisted rope trim.

Cozy Kid's Roll-and-Go Nap Blanket

Tuesday, 08 August 2017 1:00

When we're little, we simply have no idea have wonderful it is to be able nap. I remember how hard I tried to keep my peepers open all day long, and my kids struggled against daytime dreams as well. If only we could sneak away for nap time now. Not to mention for a carton of milk and some graham crackers. This soft and sweet nap time pad with its own built-in blanket just might make afternoon slumbers a little bit easier. Believe me... everyone here at Sew4Home wanted to try out the sample when it was finished!

Adjustable Slimline Waist Pack

Friday, 04 August 2017 1:00

Based on one of our most popular "fanny pack" style pouches, we’ve updated both the sample and the instructions to show you how to use lighter weight fabrics and the proper interfacing to get a stylish yet still stable result. We’ve combined quilting cotton with lightweight denim for the exterior plus a second quilting cotton for the lining. You may have just what you need already in your scrap stash! Add a decorative zipper and paracord pull as the finishing touches. Standard polyester webbing in a fun color is perfect for the belt with a parachute buckle to make it quick to adjust. There’s also a free pattern download so you can get a smooth bottom curve as well as easily slice the front panel into two perfect pieces.

ScrapBusters: Passport Covers

Thursday, 03 August 2017 1:00

One of the top searches recently on Pinterest is for passport covers. We’ve also seen several versions for sale on Flash Sites and at other popular retailers. Everyone must be on the go! For something this popular, there needs to be a quick and easy Sew4Home version. We have you (and your passport) covered. Using faux leather for the outside and quilting cotton for the inside, our little folders protect your passport from dirt and keep it flat. Two interior pockets hold it open to the appropriate page, and a stretchy elastic band keeps it shut.

Our Grandma Anna's Pretty Little Pillows

Tuesday, 01 August 2017 1:00

Our Grandma Anna was a waste-not-want-not kind of gal. In her tidy bungalow was a narrow closet she used to store her sewing supplies. It didn't contain much in the way of pristine yardage and packaged notions, but she still had plenty to work with – each item carefully organized into a small paper sack or recycled tin can. She would cut the "still good" parts from well-worn clothing, squirrel away every fabric scrap, snip off buttons, and hoard embroidery floss in lengths as short as 6". The amazing thing was how she could take these cast-off bits and pieces and turn them into something so very sweet and pretty. We're taking a page from Grandma's book with our set of five little mix-and-match pillows in natural tones and textures.

Mesh Beach Bag: Fun & Functional with Dritz Lettering & Hardware

Monday, 31 July 2017 1:00

Yes, the stores are already filled with back-to-school supplies, but I refuse to let go of summer. There are plenty of days left for fun in the sun! If you agree, our super cute Mesh Beach Bags are perfect for all the warm weather adventures yet to come. The mesh body lets sand and dirt sift out while at the same time allowing air to flow in and help dry out suits and towels. We used Dritz® Iron-on Letters to personalize our bags. Professional Dritz® hardware adds the functionality with an interior snapped pocket and detachable cross body strap.

Canvas Laundry Hamper with Drawcord Cotton Liner

Friday, 28 July 2017 1:00

We’re comin’ clean! Or at least giving you the tools to make it easier to get those piles of dirty clothes off the floor, into a hamper, and eventually on their way to the laundry room. If you took out the garbage this week, you’ll immediately recognize the theory behind this cool two-part hamper: the exterior “box” provides the shell (and does it very handsomely if we do say so ourselves), and the interior bag is like a waste can liner, dropping in and folding over the top. Fill ‘er up, then cinch ‘er up and carry the dirties to the wash. We suggest sturdy canvas for the exterior and delightful cotton for the lining. Both of our fun under-the-sea appliqués are available as free downloads.
