Decorative stitching against a neutral canvas gives this slouchy bucket bag a great hipster style. We used the beautiful stitches available on the Janome Memory Craft 9900, which go up to 9mm in width. Another great choice would be Janome's new Skyline S9 sewing and embroidery model. For a subtle boho flair, we then incorporated long, soft tassels at the sides and front. Read on to learn our unique steps for making these custom tassels: much less expensive than buying, and in an exact color match!
I used to spend hours on gift wrapping, channeling Martha Stewart to get the perfect artisan look with fresh greens and layered papers. Or maybe I dreamed that. Yep, I’m almost certain that was just a dream. I may not be able to live up to the magic elves that inhabit Pinterest, but thanks to this super cute gift bag pattern, I can hold my own. Our simple yet clever design results in a beautifully finished bag inside and out – no exposed seams, no elves needed. Plus, because you can use them over and over, they’re a green alternative to gift wrap.
Elegant but with just a touch of whimsy, our cinched evening bag miniaturizes the classic bucket shape. We shopped with our friends at Fabric Depot to select two of the most popular special occasion fabrics: velvet and silk. In particular: Triple Velvet, which is a nylon and acetate combination that creates a gorgeous drape with absolutely no stretch; and Silk Dupioni with its wonderfully crisp, slightly textured finish. We use ribbon as both a bright accent on the exterior and a striking drawcord to create the softly gathered top.
String style backpacks are a year-'round, on-the-go mainstay. They're compact and lightweight but can still hold plenty. You can find them for almost everything, from ripstop athletic gear to high-end leather bags. Ours is made in brightly colored cotton. And to give the design even more functionality, we added unique front crossover pockets, which create four individual sections to hold smaller items.
All I want is a place for my stuff. Actually, I also want world peace and maybe to win the lottery, but for now... I'm good with a place for my stuff. These soft, round baskets are designed to hold all kinds of stuff and look great doing it. Put one on a countertop to hold kitchen utensils or bath necessities. Make a bunch and line them up for a row of instant organization. We added a tab on the front with twill tape and an O-ring, which looks nice and adds interesting texture, but is also functional as a pull tab. You can fill up a shelf all the way to the top with a batch of baskets, then access each with its tab and ring, sliding one out just like using a drawer pull.
We’ve designed traveling cases for make-up and toiletries before, but never with a full zipper that allows the top to open up completely, giving you easy access to all your necessities. When we spotted the new Team Spirit Zippers from Coats, we saw our opportunity. At 26”, with separating plastic teeth, and in a dozen team color combinations, they were long enough, water-resistant enough, and bold enough to fit the bill. Open wide, fill to the brim, zip it up, and go!
There is fine, and then there is Aurifil fine! Aurifil’s newest thread collection is their 80wt super fine, 100% cotton wonder. We were thrilled to be selected as one of the first to experiment with this lovely new thread, putting it through its paces outside of the world of quilting. We developed three custom embroidery designs – each presented in a unique project. Thanks to Aurifil’s sponsorship, all the designs are free for you to download in the six major machine embroidery formats. We kick-off our Aurifil 80wt series with today’s Lion Head Mini Tote, featuring a detailed machine embroidery design in the style of the popular adult coloring book illustrations.
Back when I was attending parties in patent leather mary janes and hair bows, party favors were low-key and unassuming. If you were really lucky, you might score a candy bracelet you could eat right off your wrist. These days, things have amped up to a whole new level, with fancy favors becoming standard for birthdays, weddings, anniversaries and more. I'll admit to getting a party favor almost nicer than the gift I'd brought to the event! Maybe it's time to step back to something basic yet beautiful, starting with today's pretty favor bags in soft linen accented with gorgeous Renaissance Ribbons. Clean and simple, but with a personal touch and a fundamental elegance. What goes inside is up to you!
For yourself or as a gift, this shoulder bag is the ideal blend of two winter wardrobe staples: soft plaid flannel and crisp denim. The bag’s slight teardrop shape and soft construction gives it a signature slouch that’s as everyday-comfortable as your favorite flannel shirt and jeans. Plaid is the hot topic in fashion this season, and you’ll love the selection of Flannel Plaids at Fabric Depot. We chose the yarn-dyed Mammoth Flannel, which is woven in for an all-the-way through richness that is the perfect compliment to the stripe and solid denim. We love shopping at Fabric Depot where we can get everything in one easy stop.
