We love the idea of concealing a cutting-edge electronic device inside a vintage wrapper. Our Double Zipper Device Sleeve combines three nostaligic prints from the wonderful Eclectic Elements series by Tim Holtz for Coats. There's a great old-fashioned ticking stripe together with a print made up of retro rulers and tapes. The lining is a cool collage of vintage labels and pen and ink illustrations. Three generous pockets can hold a selection of devices. The inner sleeve is sized to easily accommodate a Nook®, Kindle® or iPad® Mini. Two 7" x 7" outer pockets can fit the smaller Nook® or your smart phone. The front pocket can be completely sealed with a zipper, so it could also hold a wallet and keys. Or... go ahead and push against the electronic grain by tucking an actual printed book or notepad into one of the compartments! Fusible fleece between the layers keeps everything soft yet stable. So many options in one convenient bag.
Tiny hands, teeny toes... babies are adorable little packages, but what they lack in size, they more than make up for in volume. Leaving the house with a baby can feel like provisioning for an Arctic adventure. You need a generous diaper bag to handle the task. Our Little Sunshine Tote features wipe-clean cotton laminate on the outside and a PUL lining. With 5" boxed corners, this tote opens wide, and there are plenty of pockets to store all the necessities: two small and two large pockets on the inside plus a handy side bottle pocket and zippered pouch on the outside. It's lightweight but hard-working.
Our backpack has classic carryall styling: from the padded adjustable straps to the fold-over flap with a magnetic clasp to the fully-finished front zippered pocket. It's a great day pack created in beautiful fabric: fashion meets function. We used Hawthorne Threads digitally printed fabric in a quilting-weight cotton. Thanks to a high thread count, this traditional weight feels smoother and a bit heavier than traditional collections. We loved working with it. Even better news: Hawthorne Threads now offers their in-house collections in a variety of substrates. Most designs are available in standard 100% quilting cotton, organic 100% quilting cotton, poplin, rayon, and linen cotton canvas!
This crisp, cute bag looks like we grabbed it right off the shelf of the trendiest high-end boutique. Its bucket shape and cinched top is a silhouette that remains popular season after season. We made the design our own by creating the sample in a modern canvas with polished nickel hardware and a matching twisted cord for the signature drawstring closure. It has a casual nautical feel – perfect for the warmer days ahead. Or, switch out the fabrics for a bag that can take you into Fall and Winter. Whatever your choice, it's easy to set a course for style. We used and recommend a mid-weight cotton canvas for the best result, and there are lots of great options to explore from a variety of designers. We're always impressed by the selection at Robert Kaufman, Kokka, and Premier Prints. We also liked Cloud9 GeoCentric Zig Zag Organic Cavas which we found at Harts Fabric.
It’s a duffle and a backpack in one! The drawcord top looks great and makes it fast and easy to load and unload the bag’s contents. Then, slip it on as a backpack for hands-free strolling to the beach (or river or park or....) and back again. We love all the clever fussy cutting we were able to do with our three Neptune and the Mermaid fabrics. Front and center is the vintage diver plunging into the ocean waves of the pocket panel. A bit more hidden, but nonetheless clever, are lining panels with their hints of a sly octopus. Margot Elena’s collection is so boldly brilliant and filled with such cunning motifs, you can tell your own little story within each and even project. In our seaside tale, Larry the lifeguard and his team of daring diving companions are racing to rescue sweet Sally who’s spilled her seashells by the seashore.
"Where did I put my ....?" Sewing projects are full of little bits and pieces, including numerous notions whose jobs are to make construction easier, but only if you can find them when you need them! Corral important items with our clever clear-view caddy. We used our Janome Skyline S7 for the construction as well as the pretty decorative stitching. It was a real pro when it came to handling the multiple layers and the variety of substrates; it sewed through it all with flying colors
This wonderful little caddy came about thanks to your requests on our You Asked 4 It list! Many of you had suggested we design a purse organizer. What are these brilliant little carriers? By loading up all your essentials into one multi-pocket pouch, all you need to do when you change bags is to switch the organizer from one to the other. It also makes it much easier to find those essentials – no more digging around at the bottom of your purse to locate your headphones! To give our custom organizer the very best form and function, we incorporated 10 Dritz® hardware products and tools. We’re often asked how we get such a professional look to all our samples. After thanking the person effusively for such a nice compliment, our reply always starts with one fundamental rule: use the right products and tools for the job. When you use products and tools that have been designed for a specific purpose, the installation is easier and the result is superior.
As more and more stores up their recycling commitment (some entire cities have banned plastic bags), it's becoming pretty common to have to bring your own shopping bags. Fabric bags are the go-to alternative and widely available, particularly the heavier, structured bags. Lightweight, flexible bags that would best replace plastic can be harder to come by. Luckily, you're a clever sewing person and can make your own... with a little help from your friends at Sew4Home.
Divide and conquer! When it comes to organizing your stuff, it’s one of the best ways to tackle the mess and contain the chaos. We created one of our famous fabric baskets, then added some extras we’ve never offered before in one storage solution: both inner and outer pockets, double carry handles, and a removable center divider. It’s a great caddy for the car, as we’ve shown in several of our photos, or customize it for any room in the house.
Made to match our Elastic Waist Boho Short Skirt, this classic little zippered pouch can just as easily stand on its own as an everyday mini bag. We used a pretty modern batik for the exterior fabric, but you need just a small fabric cut, so you may already have something in your stash that would be just the ticket. The long braided yarn straps are secured with simple side loop channels. And a triple tier tassel adds a fun finish as the zipper pull.
