If you are one of the super-organized folks in our midst, this lovely apron could get you started on your holiday sewing (we are, after all, already half way through the year!). We selected a pair of quilting cottons with lovely gold metallic accents from the Rhapsody in Blue collection from Kanvas Fabrics. It’s a festive combination that’s perfect for a holiday gathering. But who couldn’t use a bit of sparkle to glamorize an everyday occasion?!
When you're on-the-go, eating at outdoor picnic tables or food courts, do you ever wonder where to sit or put your food? Sometimes those surfaces look a bit questionable at best. And, experiments with cold and flu germs have shown they can remain active on hard surfaces for up to 48 hours. Yikes! Our set of mini clean mats is a great way to help keep things sanitary. Not only are they cute as can be, they roll up and secure with a wrap strap so they're easy to carry. Lay them out anywhere for a clean surface: one for your meal and one to sit on. When done, simply wipe clean with a sanitizing spray.
A full-coverage apron is a true vintage classic. The longer skirt and over-the-head bib are serious about keeping you clean top to bottom. Our version is completely reversible — even the ties are double-sided. But what makes it extra irresistible is the Meow or Never fabric, the latest from Moda designer, Erin Michael. This collection was unveiled just last month at Spring Quilt Market and will be appearing at retailers this Fall. We were thrilled to be given some preliminary cuts to come up with a bit of pre-release inspiration.
When we moved to the country a few years ago, one of the first differences we noticed was the birds. In the city, there wasn't much in the way of bird diversity. You have pigeons, starlings and crows - not much else. But out here, we're surrounded by a variety of feathered friends singing, swooping and scattering as we drive down the narrow country lanes. This inspired us to create our sweet Spring apron to celebrate the beauty of soaring birds against the clarity of a sparkling blue sky.
Welcome to our newest feature on Sew4Home! Fast Fridays will bring you pretty and popular projects guaranteed to be super simple. They’re great for last-minute gifts or anytime you feel like whippin’ up something wonderful in no time at all. Of course they’d be perfect for beginning sewers, but we all love an easy project! Our first Fast Friday is a set of napkins and a matching apron in Moda’s 100% cotton toweling. This vintage style fabric is pre-hemmed along the selvedge, so two of your seams are already done. That’s a darn good start to “super simple.”
We've cooked up a great kitchen project. Hot pads are are small, simple shapes that cry out for mixing and matching. We stretched our possibilities by making a long, two-handed version. Kind of like those "idiot mittens" you used to have as a kid, one mitten on each end of a string running through the arms of your coat. However, we didn't think "idiot hot pads" sounded very good. I don't know about you, but I always set down my potholders on opposite sides of the kitchen so when I need both to pull something out of the oven or off the stove, I never seem to have two within reach. Problem solved, and a very pretty solution to boot!
Our final project for Moda Moms Week is a signature Sew4Home apron in the cheerful Little Miss Sunshine collection by Lella Boutique, which delivered this month to your favorite fabric retailer. We offer a full pattern download below that allows you to create the perfect angles of our Diamond Girl design. These patterns are a big job to produce in a way that works well for construction yet still allows you to output the pieces on your home printer. Please join us in sending equally big thanks to Moda Fabrics for their sponsorship support; it’s what makes offering this free pattern possible.
I think more things in life should be reversible. Having a string of bad luck? Flip it over, and win the lottery. Say something stupid to your best friend? Turn it inside out, and it never happened. Wake up to gray and rainy day for your family picnic? Reverse it to blue skies and sunshine. Sounds good, don't you think? Although I can't promise these awesome life swaps, I can guarantee you'll love this reversible apron.
This cute panel-style apron (with a bonus matching hot pad) is a wonderful project to play with a bold print and improve your fussy cutting skills. The wraparound pocket is a perfect match against the skirt. The solid color that frames the bib and the skirt gives the apron its clean lines and creates the panel-style of the name. Pay attention to your edgestitching for the best results on these accents. Our main fabric is a cotton duck, and we recommend this heavier weight for the body of the apron. The solid is a standard quilting cotton, and with the huge variety of colors available in quilting cottons, you're sure to find the perfect accent for your favorite fabric. The panel pocket is lined with quilting cotton to keep any thickness to a manageable level.
