With triple the heart-stopping cuteness, our heart sachets hang three in a row with a ring at the top and a button weight at the bottom. Use them to add a bit of scented sweetness anywhere you want. The string can be slipped onto a hanger or simply add a bit of extra ribbon to tie the upper ring onto a doorknob or drawer pull. We used Jolly Bars for our hearts, which were the perfect size from which to cut two hearts. The 5" x 10" Jolly Bars are a pre-cut exclusive from Fat Quarter Shop.
Scanning through your comments on our recent New Year's Resolutions article, the number one category of goals seems to be "organization." Here's a great project to start with that can help tidy up the area right next to your trusty sewing machine. We've designed a handy organizer to sit on an easel stand where it can hold a few important items as well as act as a clipboard for instructions or patterns you may need to refer to while sewing.
There are so many times you need two hands free (Look Ma... No hands!), and this clever little organizer is a great solution. It can slip on a belt or clip on a belt loop; making it perfect for urban walkers, Saturday antiquing adventures or just when you're trying to wrangle two toddlers down the block. Drop your smart phone in a pocket at the back and use the zippered front pocket to hold cash, change, credit cards or other necessities.
Soft and warm – the two just go together. So that's just what we did! Our double-sided infinity loop scarf is super fast and fun. And, with so many great options in both fleece and faux fur, you can bundle up everyone. We used two printed, super cuddly minky fleece fabrics for one scarf. On the other, we combined a printed minky fleece with another amazing minky that features a faux fur finish that mimics curly llama. Both pairings are silky soft with a fluid drape that begs to be wrapped up tight.
Stocking stuffer alert! These adorable tissue covers are super fast and easy to make, and everyone needs a tissue now and then to dab away a tear, capture a sneeze or wipe up a mess. The ongoing Re-imagine & Renovate Series is our way to show you how easy it is to put a new spin on a fave design. Different fabric and notions can completely change the look of a project. For each of our three samples, we used two 10" x 10" Layer Cake squares, making this a great ScrapBusters project.
There is a French proverb that tells us, "In water one sees ones own face; but in wine, one beholds the heart of another." These tall wine bags mix the rustic feel of burlap with smooth cotton fabric and velvet or wire-edged ribbon. In honor of the quote above, we used, and offer a template for, a heart appliqué. By cutting this appliqué shape from the same burlap as is used for the main bag panels, it creates the look of a window on the front accent band. You could also draw your own shape to add a star, flower, dove or whatever strikes your fancy. We recommend sticking with a simple shape to maintain the cut-out effect.
Documentation of the first snowman is unclear. According to Bob Eckstein, author of The History of the Snowman (yes... someone actually wrote a history of the snowman!), there are artistic depictions of snowmen dating back to medieval times. The earliest documentation he found was a marginal illustration from a 1380 work titled, Book of Hours found in the National Library of the Netherlands. Our little catnip snowmen are much more modern and designed as the perfect little pet toys to keep your kitties busy while you're outside building a real "jolly, happy soul."
My mother was the ultimate note taker. She recorded everything from gifts she'd received (in order to write a thank you note later) to the gas mileage on car trips (to make sure we were getting the most for our money). In today's plugged-in-turned-on digital world, writing something down may seem old school. But jotting a note by hand is often still the fastest, easiest way to capture a thought or remember an important to-do. Plus, if you have a beautiful handmade fabric folder to keep your pad, pen, and a few extras; low-tech becomes a very lovely option.
Wardrobe malfunctions tend to happen at the most inconvenient times. Just before making an important presentation, a strategic button falls off or a seam opens up. We're not even going to discuss how many stapler-and-Scotch-Tape repairs have been made in desperation. Instead, be ready for any small sewing emergency with a travel sized sewing kit that contains just what you need for a quick disaster fix. Better yet, all the necessities are contained in a cute felt kit with a built-in pincushion kitty. Just because you're prepared doesn't mean you can't also be adorable.
We had so much fun (and such great visitor reaction) to our first article about the new Dritz® Espadrilles program, we're back for Shoepalooza Take #2. This time, we started with the basic Dritz® jute soles, then branched out to select our own unique fabric options. But the creativity didn't stop there! We added buttons, crystals, lace, and ruffles to craft three pairs of new shoes perfect for the holidays and beyond.
