When we debuted this project pair last winter, we chose a luxurious and very realistic faux fur. This season, we decided to go playful, using vibrant fun fur in a super-lush shag pile. Brights are back for Fall, and we easily found ready-to-wear gloves in all kinds of great candy colors, like the Caribbean turquoise of our sample as well as lime sherbet, hot pink and soda poppin' orange to name just a few. They look marvelous against winter white and are a fun way to add a splash of color when Mother Nature is starting to pull out her gloomy, gray days. This easy set of accessories would be a wonderful gift for all your girlfriends... then you can go out shopping together like a big box of fluffy crayons.
The only change we made to the original instructions was to alter the length of the scarf. The original cut was 16" x 38", which was based on the short lengths we spied at high-end retailers like Neiman Marcus and Saks. For our Re-imagine and Renovate set, we took full advantage of the 60" width of our fun fur, and cut the starting rectangle 16" x 58"; this means you should also increase the amount of faux fur fabric from ½ yard in the original instructions to ⅔ yard. We kept the pull-through opening 5" in length and 10" from one end. This positioning allows you to snug-up the fur around your chin or pull the ends even, resulting in a looser loop at mid-chest.
Our friends at Fabric.com have a nice selection of fun fur as does Fabric Depot's online site. Plus, since Halloween is right around the corner, many local stores have stocked up on faux furs, faux leathers and other specialty fabrics.
