Here is your word for the day: plethora. As in, "a whole bunch." As in, "With such a plethora of ribbon options on the market today, why would I want even more?" Because you can. The Janome Ribbon Sewing Guide allows you to stitch directly on ribbon up to 1" wide, so you can personalize the color and design of your ribbon accents and create exactly the look you want and need.
Set this pretty kitty on your sofa to keep watch over the rest of your pillows. The bold silhouette with its sweet dimensional bow is truly the Cat’s Meow. Our original design was created to show off the amazing appliqué capabilities of the Janome machines. We used the Janome Skyline S7, but the same precision stitch quality is available on all their models, from the top-of-the-line sewing and embroidery powerhouses to the entry level compacts. We’re an exclusive Janome studio at Sew4Home, and it’s one of the top reasons our finished samples turn out so beautifully. Your sewing machine is the tool at the center of the process; it better have your back! That means a machine you can rely on to do what it needs to do easily and without any unnecessary frustration on your part. When you’re confident in your machine’s performance, it frees you to concentrate on your creativity.
Life can get a little sticky sometimes. In general, that statement covers a vast array of scenarios. But in the world of sewing, we’re usually talking about laminates, vinyls, faux leather, oil cloth, and the other sticky fabric substrates that look cool but can be challenging to sew. The surfaces of these specialty fabrics love to drag across your presser foot and/or needle plate, causing your stitching to bunch or break. Plus, with non-wovens, once you make a hole it’s there to stay. So the last thing you want are extra holes due to messed up seams. The Janome Ultra Glide Foot and its accompanying Needle Plate Set gives you the ability to sew through your sticky situations like a hot knife through butter.
We started working with the Janome MC500E when it debuted just last fall, and it's been a delight. This project is designed to show you an example of a popular trend: embroidery in-the-hoop. The technique is just as the name implies, the vast majority of the project, both sewing and embroidery, is done within the hoop. In this case it means that although the MC500E is an embroidery-only model, it can complete the entire project. We've given detailed steps below for completing these beautiful coasters on the MC500E, but even if you don't have this model (yet...), you'll find the in-the-hoop process intriguing. We used one of the MC500E built-in designs, using its flexible on-screen editing features to create the border.
I know they say creativity is about learning to "color outside of the lines," but sometimes, the line is our friend. This happy pair of hot pads is all about the beauty of a perfect connection from point A to point B. We selected a wide stripe for the front, which we then highlighted with parallel rows of bright decorative stitching. The back has just the decorative stitching against a neutral background. We used our Janome Skyline S7 for precise and beautiful stitching row after row after row.
A mug rug is like a mini placemat with just the right amount of room for the aforementioned mug along with a few little treats. The smaller size makes it great for tight spaces, like an end table or in your sewing room. We incorporated an extended panel with a pocket for a napkin. Use it with the napkin for an especially tidy mug rug or remove the napkin and simply take advantage of the extra real estate... perhaps for some additional little treats!
The word "only" gets kind of a bad rap. It can seem a little too close to "lonely," but the flip side is the heart of its true meaning: to focus on one thing. If you do one thing very, very well, then you are likely an expert. So it is with the Janome Memory Craft embroidery-only machines. Yes, they only do embroidery, but they do it expertly and with Janome's trademark ease-of-use. The newest member of this family is the Memory Craft 500E, which just debuted last month at authorized Janome America dealers. We got the opportunity to try the new model and used it to create this beautiful set of embroidered placemats and napkins. We selected two built-in florals, stitching them against a shear ribbon lattice on a 100% linen background.
Sometimes you want structure and sometimes you want soft. With slicing winds, hammering rain, and sheets of ice, winter serves up enough hard edges. Treat yourself or a friend to this easy-going sling bag. Canvas and cotton with fusible fleece in between creates a durable yet flexible tote. A solid strap lets you wear it cross-body so your hands are free, and the bag is snug to your side when that wind kicks up. We used the decorative stitches on our Janome Skyline S7 to make a super stylish strap from simple twill tape.
Two colors, two fabrics, one awesome machine to put it all together: the new Janome Skyline S7. This clutch knocks-off a popular style we spotted on the shelves of several la-di-da, high-end boutiques. We love being able to give you the inspiration and instructions to make your own beautiful bags and totes for a fraction of the hundreds of dollars listed on designer price tags.
"Where did I put my ....?" Sewing projects are full of little bits and pieces, including numerous notions whose jobs are to make construction easier, but only if you can find them when you need them! Corral important items with our clever clear-view caddy. Janome America sent us the new Skyline S7 sewing machine to try out, and we felt the perfect project to showcase its precision stitching was something with multiple, tricky layers.
