These boxed floor cushions, with their piping and tufting, are a home décor classic. But many otherwise hearty sewing enthusiasts shy away from attempting anything three-dimensional. That’s not you, right? Of course not! So let’s get ready to go 3D! This is the fifth project in our S4H Maker’s Club, available exclusively at participating Janome Dealers across the US and Canada. With this design, Club members will do some simple but very clever and pretty patchwork, learn how to create and attach piping, and put it all together into an expertly tufted box. Read on to find out more about the project and how you may be able to join a Club in your area.
Narrow tucks, called pintucks when they are super-duper narrow, are most often used in the world of heirloom sewing, but they can add a lovely bit of detail to many other types of projects. You can create this look quickly and easily with your Quarter Inch Seam foot. Tucks can be sewn in thread to match the fabric for a classic tone-on-tone look. Or, switch to a contrasting thread for extra detail along the stitch line. For even more embellishment, amp up the accent with decorative stitching between tucks or directly on top of each tuck.
Sergers. For some, the word alone can send them screaming into the darkest corners of their sewing rooms. “The threading… not the threading… make it stop!” Well, perhaps that’s a wee bit dramatic, but the fear of threading the loopers on a serger, “Sergiothreadaphobia” as it is known in medical circles, keeps many a sewer from adding this powerful tool to their compliment of machines. If you’re a regular Sew4Home follower, you know we are an all-Janome studio, and so we are thrilled to tell you about their newest serger: the Airthread 2000D Professional – Serging Simplified. Available now at Authorized Janome Dealers in the US and Canada.
Baby on board! Babies and toddlers are busy – why tie up your hands carrying a diaper bag when you can use a backpack?! Our beautiful bag finishes at 16” high x 12” wide x 6” deep and can be worn as a backpack or hand carried – the adjustable straps are removable and the carry handles are corded for strength and softness. This is the fourth project in our S4H Maker’s Club, available exclusively at participating Janome Dealers across the US and Canada. Read on to find out more about the project and how you may be able to join a Club in your area.
Spring is in the air and it has sent some fine feathered friends to celebrate. As they alight on a pair of delicate wires, we like to imagine they’re talking about how much they’re enjoying the Sew4Home Maker’s Club. This exciting new Club kicked off last November at participating Janome Dealers across the US and Canada. From bags to baskets to linens and more, Maker’s Club members are creating clever projects and learning pro techniques. Club Project #3 is an adorable appliquéd pillow with a set of very “sweet tweets”!
Our unique Sew4Home Maker’s Club celebrates Valentine’s month with the second of seven project packages: a super sweet Quilted Machine Mat & Caddy. This exciting new Club kicked off last November at participating Janome Dealers across the US and Canada. From bags to baskets to linens and more, Sew4Home Maker’s Club members create clever projects and learn pro techniques. Club Project #2 helps cushion the work surface for your machine and keeps your favorite notions and tools handy… and it does all of that while looking cute as the proverbial button! These projects are exclusive to Janome America dealers, but we introduce each one right here on the website to keep you up-to-date on all the inspiration. Reach out to your local Janome dealer for more information on how you can sign up.
We have a new machine in our Sew4Home studios: the Janome Memory Craft 6700 Professional. We put it through its power and precision paces with this custom felt appliqué pillow that features more twists and turns than a James Patterson mystery. We created a beautiful abstract flower design with a bit of a whimsical feel – perfect to render in the soft texture of a quality wool blend felt. If you are a beginner when it comes to appliqué, felt is the most forgiving of substrates. It’s easier to cut out, easier to place and fuse, and easier to stitch in place…. especially with the MC6900P.
Yes, we’ve entered the New Year, and yes, we’d like to think that means ol’ man winter is in our rear view mirror. But across the US, the cold weather is hanging on tighter than the waistband of your favorite jeans after all those holiday treats! This warm-you-up neck cowl will get you through the wicked weather in style. It’s like a mini scarf that buttons around your neck. Ours is smooth flannel on the outside and soft luxury fleece on the inside. Toasty times two!
This lovely apron pulls together three different techniques into one, fun project: our Everything Apron. It features embroidery, decorative stitching, and quilting. The base design of the apron comes from the Vintage Modern Pleated Apron from our Kitchen Confections Series. We added pretty new embellishments to give it an updated look with a little bit of everything for everyone.
Whether you make your own binding tape or purchase packaged bias tape, a cleanly bound edge is the perfect finish for so many projects. It’s definitely one of our favorites. However, getting a smooth and even edge along a skinny binding can be challenging. And we all know, the first thing that will keep you up at night is wavy topstitching. Well, there are probably other things keeping you up at night, but we’re kind of obsessed with straight seams. Hallelujah, there’s a new specialty presser foot from Janome that is letting us get a bit more shut eye: the Taping Guide Foot!
