Nearly every sewing machine has at least a few decorative stitch options. Most of our Janome studio machines have dozens and dozens. These stitches are like tiny pieces of thread art; it’s hard to believe a single threaded needle can produce such an intricate design. Even though we love them, we often forget to use them, but they are an easy solution to take a simple surface from ordinary to special in the blink of an eye. We created a traditional linen placemat, added eight tiny tucks for texture plus 15 lines of decorative stitching in sparkling metallic thread. Bring a little bling to your holiday table!
A bed runner is a decorative throw for the foot of the bed. It's lovely to look at, and it helps protect a fancier full-size quilt or bedspread. You can sit on a bed runner or even stretch out and place your feet on it. We used ours to show off the quilting features of Janome's sewing and quilting machines. It finishes at approximately 92" x 34" and is sized for a king or queen mattress. The sample runner is shown in the photos on a king bed; there would simply be more drape down either side on a queen.
When you focus on one thing, you get pretty darn good at it. One summer during childhood, my pal, Marilyn and I spent every day going around in circles. We were laser-focused on one thing: learning to ride a bike with no hands (ahhhh… life before smart phones, right?). Our dedication paid off and within a couple weeks, we rode away with arms held high, balanced and beaming. It’s the same with the new Janome Memory Craft 550E. It’s a stand-alone, embroidery-only machine that is very, very good at its one main focus: gorgeous embroidery.
Hearing about new sewing machines is always exciting, but when you hear about a model that has been specifically designed with the comfort and needs of the power sewing enthusiast in mind… well that’s not just exciting; that’s spine-tingling, inspiring, electrifying news. Too dramatic you say? Take a look our Top Five Favorite Features on the new Janome Continental M7 Professional, including three “industry firsts.”
The classic oven mitt presents an excellent surface for embellishment. As our embellishment option, we chose a Flourish Alphabet Monogram – one of the built-in designs on our favorite Janome embroidery-only model: the Memory Craft 500E. And, we’ve done this beautiful embroidery with three colors of Aurifil 50wt cotton thread. The result may just be the most stylish set of oven mitts ever! As a gift or for yourself, this is a fun project with a stunning result. We joked about embroidering a “L” on one hand and a “R” on the other — just in case you get your left and right confused when baking!
Packing your own lunch for school or work saves money and very likely provides you with a more nutritious meal. Now… it can also be the most stylish of alternatives. This pretty insulated lunch bag is fun, colorful, and features a bold monogram that clearly states, “That’s my PB&J, dude… hands off.” We used the Janome Skyline S9 sewing and embroidery machine for construction and embroidery. It made stitching through the multiple layers a snap, and the monogram was super easy to set-up and stitch out.
If you own a Horizon Quilt Maker Memory Craft 15000 or a Horizon Memory Craft 9450 QCP, you already know you have a feature-filled machine. But you may not know the ins and outs of all those features. Dig into those delights with the help of a Janome Workbook that includes tips, tricks, and step-by-step instructions for getting the most out of your machine.
If you’re a Sew4Home regular, you know we brought you news of this great Janome Presser Foot series earlier this year. We're back with a review of the latest addendum, covering the Cover Pro Presser Feet. Many people rarely change out their presser foot, often because they’re just not sure what to do with that bag o’ extra feet that came with their machine! Is that you?! Janome has tackled this “excuse” with their Presser Foot Workbook series, which gives you a working knowledge of their most popular feet. Take a look at our overview, then visit your local Janome dealer for more information on how to build your own set. We say “build” your own set because one of the things we love most about how this series was developed is the fact that the basic binder covers the nine feet most commonly included as standard feet with the majority of models. You can then choose to add up to four additional supplements based on the type of sewing in which you’re most interested.
Embroidery turned a simple round, white pillow into a stunning statement. Our friends at Janome America sponsored this beautiful custom embroidery design, allowing us to offer it to you as a free download in the six major embroidery machine formats. The ascending and descending triangles simulate a rosy sunrise reflected in a cool mountain lake. We used the Horizon Quilt Maker Memory Craft 15000 for our sample and also tested the design on the Memory Craft 9900. Both models stitched out the design with the incredible precision for which Janome is famous.
The classic rolled clutch is a summertime favorite: lightweight, lovely, and just the right size. Often seen in woven straw, we created a version you can make yourself in fabric. Three flat panels cleverly wrap around and come together to produce the three dimensional roll. We used the Janome Horizon Quilt Maker Memory Craft 15000 for both construction and embroidery. It’s great to have one machine that can do both!
