The humble bow is actually a clever kind of knot. We learn about it early in order to keep our shoes on our feet. From there, it begins to shed its utilitarian beginnings, becoming fashionable as a hair ornament or impressive as a package topper. Today, we’ve kicked it up another notch, creating a luxurious bow pillow in faux fur to pretty up your bed or glamorize your sofa. As a Fast Fridays project, you can be confident this elegant accent is also easy. Fast Fridays are all about whipping out something wonderful in no time at all.
We’ve done several yoga mat totes here on Sew4Home (links are included below), but sometimes you don’t need or want a full bag. You’re dressed and ready, and your minimalist tendencies say all you need is to sling your mat over your shoulder and go. This style of mat-wrap is easy to find on retail shelves, but we’re willing to bet none of them are as lovely (or as clever) as ours. We’ve used gorgeous jacquard ribbon from Renaissance Ribbons on one side with standard polyester webbing on the other. All the brain-twisting wrapping, turning, and securing challenges have been figured out, so you can put it all together in a snap. It’s a perfect part of our Fast Fridays series, which is all about whipping out something wonderful in no time at all.
According to style watchers, one of the summer’s must-have accessories is the bandana. It’s featured regularly as a head scarf but is just as popular tied around the neck, the wrist, and even onto bags and totes. And here’s the latest fashion flash: you don’t have to use traditional bandana fabric. In fact, many sites and magazines are showing all kinds of patterns and colors. Excellent! We worked with our friends at Fat Quarter Shop, where the quilting cotton variety is amazing, to select a fun new collection to turn into our Boho Parisian Bandana Set: Joie de Vivre by Bari J for Art Gallery Fabrics.
Not only does this Fast Fridays project live up to its speedy name, it’s also a great ScrapBuster opportunity – especially for your favorite leftover 5” x 5” charm square pre-cuts. Cut, layer, stitch, serve (shaken not stirred). It’s just that easy and as cute and colorful as can be. Of course, you could switch to a more elegant look with muted tones and metallics. Or wouldn’t these be lovely on the guest tables in wedding colors, maybe with a touch of lace? Let us know what great ideas you come up with next time you feel like whippin’ up something wonderful in no time at all!
Feel like whippin’ up something wonderful in no time at all? That’s the goal of our Sew4Home Fast Fridays. We’ve developed extra easy projects that are still guaranteed to be popular and pretty, like these extra-wide, extra-soft sunglass cases. Tossing your sunglasses directly into a bag or tote is asking for scratches to the lenses. This cute and lightweight case is a great way to protect them and make them easier to spot in the jumble of a bag’s contents.
Welcome to our newest feature on Sew4Home! Fast Fridays will bring you pretty and popular projects guaranteed to be super simple. They’re great for last-minute gifts or anytime you feel like whippin’ up something wonderful in no time at all. Of course they’d be perfect for beginning sewers, but we all love an easy project! Our first Fast Friday is a set of napkins and a matching apron in Moda’s 100% cotton toweling. This vintage style fabric is pre-hemmed along the selvedge, so two of your seams are already done. That’s a darn good start to “super simple.”
