At Sew4Home, R&R doesn’t mean Rest & Relaxation, it means Get Up & Go: Re-imagine & Renovate! Just like a fresh coat of paint can transform a room, brand new fabric can completely change the look of a project. We’re celebrating the final week of National Sewing Month by putting a new twist on some S4H sewing classics. Today, we picked adorable sewing motif fabric from the good folks at Fat Quarter Shop to recreate our sewing machine and serger covers. Your hard-working machines make so much stuff for you, the least you can do is make some little outfits for them! These are perfect projects to spruce up your own sewing room, but would also make wonderful gifts for all the sewers and crafters on your holiday lists.
Our covers were sized to fit the Janome mid-range sewing machine and serger in our Sew4Home studios. Both fall within standard sizes for similar makes and models, but be sure to measure your own machine to see if the patterns will be right for you. The covers are designed to be approximately 1″ larger all around than the dimensions of the machine; you don’t want a super tight fit. You should be able to simply drop the cover into place over your machine.

These cute-as-a-button sewing motif fabrics are from the Cut and Sew collection by Ann Kelle for Robert Kaufman Fabrics. For the lining, we used the beautiful Bella Solids in Snow by Moda Fabrics.
The serger cover features Dress Forms & Hangers in Light Green with Remix Scatter Dots in Lime for the piping and trim.
The sewing machine cover features Needle & Thread in Orange with the same Remix Scatter Dots in Lime for the ruffled skirt and handle. We used a fun coordinating plaid for the accent ribbon.
The only change we made to the original instructions was to alter the stabilizer for the sewing machine cover. Both the original covers were a soft style; we used batting for body, which is what we stayed with for the serger cover this time around. We switched to Pellon Decor Bond heavy weight fusible stabilizer
