The S4H Maker’s Club - Exclusively at your Janome Dealer - Backpack Diaper Bag

Printer-friendly versionPDF version

Baby on board! Babies and toddlers are busy – why tie up your hands carrying a diaper bag when you can use a backpack?! Our beautiful bag finishes at 16” high x 12” wide x 6” deep and can be worn as a backpack or hand carried – the adjustable straps are removable and the carry handles are corded for strength and softness. This is the fourth project in our S4H Maker’s Club, available exclusively at participating Janome Dealers across the US and Canada. Read on to find out more about the project and how you may be able to join a Club in your area.

From bags to baskets to linens and more, S4H Maker’s Club members across the US and Canada are creating clever projects and learning pro techniques. This trendy style of diaper bag is a favorite with parents. Not only does it provide two carrying options, the design has a sleek, unisex feel that gives the bag a professional look anyone would be comfortable using… because not everyone loves quilted totes emblazoned with duckies and bunnies – sometimes you want to travel with baby while still rockin’ a bit of urban flair.

Little ones require a lot of accouterments when they venture out and about so we made sure there were plenty of places to stash everything you need. There are five exterior pockets, one with an exposed zipper, plus five pockets in the wipe-clean, water-resistant ripstop lining.

These Club projects are exclusive to Janome dealers, but we introduce each one right here on the S4H website to keep you up-to-date on all the inspiration. Reach out to your local Janome dealer in the US or Canada for more information on how you can sign up.

There are seven projects in this first season of the Maker’s Club, many of which include special extras, such as the custom patterns and templates that help make putting together this very professional bag – very easy.  Other projects feature unique items, such as custom embroidery designs. Dealers lead all Club classes using Sew4Home’s famously easy-to-sew instructions.

We worked on the Janome Skyline S7, which comes standard with 240 built-in stitches; we used one of our favorite decorative stitches to embellish the bag’s webbing straps. There are also eleven one-step buttonholes and seven alphabets. To power through the thick layers in this structured bag, we made use of the S7’s AcuFeed™ Flex Layered Fabric Feeding System and the Automatic Presser Foot Lift. Navigation through all the machine’s features is simple on the large and bright LCD color touchscreen.

During this project, Club members will learn how to create adjustable webbing straps with decorative stitching accents, an inset base, corded handles, an exposed zipper pocket, and a ripstop lining with flat and elastic pockets. Plus they’ll work with an assortment of professional hardware: D-rings, Adjustable Sliders, Swivel Hooks, and Grommets

Our fabric selections are Jasmine and Charcoal from the Ventana Twill collection by Robert Kaufman Fabrics along with a standard ripstop nylon for the lining.

We hope you’ll contact your Janome America dealer or your Janome Canada dealer to become a S4H Maker’s Club member. If your local dealer isn’t on board yet, let him/her know you are interested. The more requests we have about the Club, the more likely we can continue and expand Club project options beyond this first season, as well as add more locations.

Want it? Make it! Join the Sew4Home Maker’s Club today!

P.S. Our thanks to awesome Mom and Baby models, Kris and Jude!

Is the Maker's Club only availabe in the US/Canada? I am in Australia - do I need to wait until the pattern is available as per previous comment?

@Roband - Yes, at this time, the Club is only happening in the US and Canada. But as mentioned above, we encourage to let your local dealer as well as Janome Australia know you are interested. The more comments they hear and requests they receive, the more likely we can continue and expand. Thanks!

Very nice, but it's missing a feature that my favorite diaper bag had - a fold out changing pad.  I could change diapers anywhere as I always had a changing pad to lay my babies on to protect them while I changed their diaper.

My dealer doesn’t participate. Is there any way to obtain the pattern and instructions online?

@martykilroy - The pattern and instructions are only available at participating Janome Maker's Club dealers at this time. We will eventually be adding all the Maker's Club patterns to our S4H Etsy Shop, but not until after the first Club season has concluded later this year. We'll keep you posted. Thanks!
