A Review of the New Janome Limited Edition DC2015

Printer-friendly versionPDF version

Each year, Janome comes out with a special limited edition sewing machine model with your favorite features, tons of great decorative stitches, and in a cool color combo to brighten your sewing space. Last month, at the industry's largest trade show in Las Vegas, Janome America debuted this year's model: the DC2015. A striking red and white computerized model with power, precision, and several new standard features. We took a quick tour, and we're more than ready to find the DC2015 a permanent home in our Sew4Home studios.

Love the look

The DC2015 colors are bright Janome red against white, and the accents are applied in a sleek, modern style. We especially like how easy it is to read the white stitch chart against the sharp red background.

A hard cover is included, which makes it easy to protect the DC2015 when not in use as well as to bring it along to classes and other events.

Always something new

One of the things we look forward to when a new Janome model arrives, are the enhancements we know we'll find. Features that debut on Janome's top-of-the-line machine often find their way to other models. We think it's great how Janome engineers work to find innovative ways to incorporate ease-of-use elements for everyone to experience.

A refinement we spotted immediately on the Janome DC2015 was the larger LED screen, which is quick and easy to control with the touch-ring. Use one finger to click through the stitch selections and adjust length and width.

An excellent setting update is how the needle up/down control is now set with needle-down as the default. If you're a regular Sew4Home visitor, you know we're continually reminding you to stop with your needle in the down position to maneuver curves or other tight spaces. The DC2015 remembers for you!

All the favorites are there as well

We call them the "go-to features," the built-in favorites we rely on day-in and day-out. They're all in the DC2015, including: a top-loading, full rotary hook bobbin; built-in needle threader; locking stitch button; easy bobbin winder; snap-on presser feet; and a start/stop button.

There's a convenient storage drawer at the front that holds all the standard accessories.

Slide it off, and you're ready for free-arm sewing.

Setting up for double-needle sewing is super easy, and the secondary spool pin is standard.

Stitches, stitches, and more stitches

There are 60 built-in stitches and six one-step buttonholes. And with the stitch chart right on the front of the machine, the choices are always top-of-mind when you're sewing.

Limited Edition

As its name implies, the DC2015 is produced in a limited run for this year, so you'll want to visit your Janome dealer as soon as possible for a "test stitch."

The machine is available now for $699. Check with your local Janome America Dealer for details as well as debut promotional pricing, trade in opportunities, and special packages.

This new model would be great for anyone starting out or if you're looking for an all-around workhorse of a machine to add to your sewing space.

Thanks, Janome America, for letting us take the DC2015 for a spin!

I just bought this machine and was SO excited to use it! Now I’m near tears because the foot control is only working sporadically or not at all. I’m very frustrated that the Janome website only has “user forums” when you click “support.” I ordered the machine from Amazon as there are not local stores that carried this model. Hopefully a new foot pedal will be sent. I’m so, so disappointed.

@Anne - So sorry to hear you are having some frustrations. This really is a wonderful machine. Perhaps you didn't drill all the way down on the Janome site? They do have a form for general inquiries about machine issues. I've listed that link below. Also, are you completely sure the cord is securely inserted to the foot control and to the machine? That actually happened to me at one time -- I had not completely inserted the cord into the machine.

I just purchased this machine and I also have the scissors icon on the LCD screen. I am trying to figure out how to use it also.

@Carmen - as we mentioned in our response to Amanda above - I'm afraid we don't have the answer to that particular system question as we no longer have the model in the studio and didn't experience that issue when we had it. It would be best to check your manual or with your local Janome dealer, or you could reach out directly to Janome America: http://janome.com/en/support/

@Amanda - We're not aware of any scissors icon on this particular model. It doesn't have a built-in thread cutter, which is usually what that type of icon stands for. We no longer have this model in our studio so have no way to confirm. Check your manual or with your local Janome dealer, or you could reach out directly to Janome America: http://janome.com/en/support/

@ Linda - yes, it does well with a variety of fabric weights and types.

@Ruth2016 - The Janome machines have a lot of power and can certainly handle denim. You'd want to switch to a denim needle and depending on the number of layers, may also want to use a walking foot. Your best option is always to do a "test drive" at your local dealer with the fabric you plan to use to make sure you like how it handles.

Is there an extension table that works or fits with this DC2015 that you are aware of? Thank you.

does this machine come with an automatic buttonhole foot or do I have to purchase that separately?

Liz Johnson.Editor.Sew4Home said:

@ Cynthia - It does come with the foot. You can see it in the accessories photo above. Remember, this was a 2015 limited edition model. It may be in short supply by now, but certainly check with your Janome dealer. Janome normally comes out with a new model each year. We haven't heard yet what the 2016 version will be.

Isn't the National Quilt 2016 machine the new one for this year?  Or, is there another one for 2016?

Liz Johnson.Editor.Sew4Home said:

@ Lisa - We haven't gotten official word yet from Janome on the 2016 model, but I'm sure we'll know more this month.

Does this machine have the Superior Feed System? If not, what does it have. Love the look!

Good question Janet K., I'd like to know if it has the SFS as well. If not then why and how will that effect the sewing experience? Thanks for any help. P.S. They took the hearts off the decorative stitches?

Liz Johnson.Editor.Sew4Home said:

@ Darlene and Janet K - This machine has a 7-piece feed dog system. Your best bet would be to stitch with it side by side with other models to see what works best for the type of sewing you do. And yes, no hearts on this one - but lots of other cool stitches.

Does it come with a power supply cord and a foot control?  What is the difference between DC2015 and DC2014?

Liz Johnson.Editor.Sew4Home said:
Liz Johnson.Editor.Sew4Home's picture

@ shereen - yes there is a power cord and a foot control. As mentioned above, Janome comes out with a new model each year - the colors change and the body style changes and some of the stitches and a few of the features change. In the information above, we highlight the updated features. For more information, you can visit the janome.com website or visit your local Janome America dealer.

Ooooo I love the extra buttonholes on this machine!  I've got a simple, sturdy Kenmore that cost me $60 (so you can imagine how basic it is!) but I am ready to UPGRADE and if I can swing it, this will be my pick!  Thanks Sew4Home for the review!

My daughter gave me a Janome New Home DC2014 in Dec. 2014. I absolutely love it. I do a great deal of sewing.  I took the 3 free lessons Meissner's offered as an old dog can always learn new tricks; and I also wanted to learn how to take care of the machine properly. I have always had 'almost' top of the line sewing machines. I always say "buy the best you can afford at the time, then take Good Care of it", and I was very happy with them. But this Janome DC2014 is like driving a new Mercedes. I can highly recommend it.

Are you able to manually adjust the pressure foot? This is a beautiful machine:)

@ Monica S. - Do you mean to adjust the Pressure of the Presser Foot? If so, this machine have a pressure dial at the top of the machine than can be manually adjusted.
