Happy Halloween from the staff of Sew4Home. In honor of this very spooky day dedicated to all things sugary, we'd like to share one of our favorite fast desserts: Dirt Cake. It's made from just four ingredients, all of which are delicious on their own: chocolate pudding, milk, Oreos® and Cool Whip®. Put them all together, serve them with a trowel, and you have a Halloween dessert to die for.

Ingredients

  • 2 packages (4-serving size) JELL-O® Chocolate or Fudge Instant Pudding
  • 3½ cups cold milk
  • 1 tub (12 oz) Cool Whip® topping, thawed
  • 1 large package Oreo® chocolate sandwich cookies, crushed
  • 1 new, washed flower pot (7½" round) and 1 new, washed plastic trowel

Directions

Preparation time: 10 minutes (Time to consume: 30 seconds!)

Makes approximately 10-12 half-cup servings

  1. Crush cookies in a zippered bag with a rolling pin or in a food processor until they resemble potting soil.
  2. Prepare pudding according to package directions, using 3½ cups milk.
  3. Let stand five minutes.
  4. Stir in the Cool Whip and ⅓ to ½ of the crushed Oreos.
  5. Spoon into the plastic flower pot.
  6. Sprinkle remaining crushed Oreos over the top.
  7. Garnish with a flower.
  8. Serve with a trowel.

Going down to Halloween Town

For an even spookier Halloween version, use a 13" x 9" basking dish instead of a flower pot. Partially bury a plastic skeleton and/or some Gummy Worms in the top of the dirt cake. You can also add other decorations, like flat cookies decorated with icing that say RIP; candy pumpkins and ghosts.
