One of the places I spent a bit of time during the CHA Craft Super Show was Hancock Fabrics' big booth. They always seemed have a fun tutorial in-progress, and there were lots of new products on display. While there, I met and talked with M'Liss Rae Hawley, one of quilting's most popular designers and writers. She's recently begun a partnership with Hancock Fabrics and is coming out with some beautiful fabric collections ... that you just might see here at Sew4Home in the future. M'Liss introduced me to a couple new products I thought were interesting: Fusi-Boo and Shape-Flex. Fusi-Boo™I not only love the name of this product, I love that it's a green option in the world of batting. Fusi-Boo™ just hit the stores this past January, and is the industry's first fusible batting made with a special blend of fibers including natural cotton and rayon fiber made from bamboo. This unique bamboo/cotton blend, called Nature-Fil™ Bamboo batting when purchased separately, is soft and supple to the touch, with excellent loft. In Fusi-Boo™, the Nature-Fil™batting is combined with a non-toxic, water soluble fusible resin to create a great batting that's safe for the environment and eliminates the need for basting. This would be the perfect choice for layering into a rag or baby quilt. Shape-Flex®I was telling M'Liss about the great tote bags Sew4Home has been featuring lately, and she steered me over to Shape-Flex® fusible interfacing from C&T Publishing. This white 100% cotton interfacing provides soft, flexible support; is easy to cut, mark and sew; and can be machine washed and dried. The standard package contains one 20x45" piece, and is available from Hancock's website and in their stores. Not only would this be great for totes and other bags, it would also be good for stabilizing delicate fabrics in fiber arts, and I could see using it some garment sewing for jacket yokes, pockets and cuffs.
