Here's another fun find from my wanderings around the floor at the recent CHA Craft Super Show in Anaheim California. The show featured many, many, many companies devoted to scrapbooking. Most of these I motored right on by in my quest for home décor ideas and inspiration. And then I came upon the Alexx Kesh booth. Maybe it was the fact there was shelf after shelf of the cutest little rolls of ribbons in all kinds of colors and patterns. Maybe I was drawn to the rows of tiny cups of beaded felt flowers, or the display of amazingly different mesh, interfacing and crepe. Maybe it was the fact I hadn't eaten all day. Whatever it was, I suddenly realized, 'Hey! You could use this scrapbooking stuff to embellish home décor!'
Alexx Kesh is a family owned and operated company out of Sun Valley, California. I was most impressed by the variety and uniqueness of their product offerings. Everyone in the booth was also extremely friendly and helpful, which is worth a bunch in my book. I'm sure you could find similar products by trolling the aisles of your local craft store, and the main purpose of this article is to get us all thinking out of the box when it comes to finding embellishments that could make a pillow pop, a blanket more beautiful or a turn a towel into something terrific. Ribbons galoreRibbons with dots, stripes, flowers, even words. These would look so cute on a guest towel in the bathroom, criss-crossing the front of a pillow or binding the edge of a baby blanket. I always wore ribbons in my hair as a little girl, and to this day, a pretty ribbon always brightens my mood. Beaded felt flowersCan you imagine a rainbow of these adorable flowers carpeting the front of a throw pillow. Darling and dimensional! They'd also look very trendy strung together as a mobile. Stitchable interfacing, mesh and crepeTo be perfectly honest, I'm not 100% sure what I'd use these items for, but they are so cool, I'm going to keep noodlin' on it. My first thought was to do more sewn cards and envelopes, like we recently designed for Valentine's Day. All these materials are quite stitchable, but none are washable. You could incorporate bits and pieces into a cover for a pillow that was only going to be decorative. Or, they'd be super fun as party banners, similar to what we did for our Patio Party collection. Maybe you could help me come up with some more ideas, because I love the look of these materials. I didn't find specific links for every product they'd featured in their booth at CHA, but cruise their site for great ideas (I stopped for a quite a while at the ric rac ... they have flowered ric rac!), and if you contact them with a specific request, I'm sure the folks at Alexx Kesh would be happy to help.
