You have a piece of linen from Great-Grandma with a beautiful lace trim. But you don't use it because of stains or damage to one side. This simple pillow project is a great way to use the good half of your heirloom. And you can choose a fabric that will coordinate with your current decorating. This envelope pillow was made with a vintage dresser runner that had stains on all but one corner.
Sewing Tools You Need:
- Sewing machine
- Zigzag foot
- Buttonhole foot
- Pins
Fabric and Other Supplies:
- ½ yd. material for pillow
- Vintage linen with usable corner of embroidery and lace (enough for 18" triangle)
- Button
- Pillow insert
Construction
- Cut vintage linen so that side opposite the lace corner is 18" (same size as pillow).
- Use buttonhole foot to make button hole about 2" up from point of triangle
- With wrong sides together, sew lace triangle to back of piece of pillow along cut edge of linen piece
- Finish edge with a zigzag stitch or serge.
- With wrong sides together, pin both pillow pieces together on remaining three sides, being careful not to get lace caught in seams except for upper ½" corners.
- Optional: finish all seams with zigzag or serge.
- Turn inside out and bring vintage linen over opening toward front.
- Insert pillow.
- Mark where buttonhole is, remove insert, and sew button to marking.
- Reinsert pillow and button close.
