Who in their right mind would run a strip of fabric with horizontal stripes through the middle of a print? Someone who wants a fun throw pillow that pulls together disparate fabric choices in the same room.

When you break the stripes-with-prints rule, just make sure your fabrics share the same basic colors. Or you could end up with something a little garish.

Sewing Tools You Need

Any sewing machine (we recommend the Janome ThreadBanger12)

Fabric and Other Supplies

• Pillow pattern Simplicity 4108
• Print fabric for making the pillow cover
• Striped fabric for pillow front
• All purpose thread in colors to match fabric
• Hand sewing needle
• Notions according to pattern
• Pillow form, 12" x 22"
• Scissors
• Iron

Getting Started

1. From Simplicity 4108 choose pattern #10.
2. Use this to cut out the two side pieces and stripe for the front of your pillow. Remember to add a 1/2" seam allowance around each piece.
3. Use pattern #10 to cut out your pillow back.

At Your Sewing Machine

1. Sew together the pieces for the pillow front.
2. Following the pattern instructions, finish making the pillow cover.
3. Insert your pillow form and slip stitch the cover closed.
4. You're done!

Hints and Tips

Instead of making two identical pillows, sew your second pillow with the stripes as the dominant fabric and the print as the accent strip.
