 Damask is a tapestry-like woven fabric with a pattern visible on both sides. Its bold pattern is rich and luxurious, and the effect creates an eye-catching pillow. Scared of the beautiful, thick fringe? Don't be. It's actually quite simple to sew.
A fabric choice like damask makes the perfect accent pillow. Mix it with solid color pillows for an elegant grouping or add a coordinating print for an more eclectic feel.
 Sewing Tools You Need
- Any Sewing Machine (we recommend the MO200QC)
Fabric and Other Supplies
- McCall's pattern M4410
- Assorted trims and tassels, yardage according to pattern
- All purpose thread in colors to match fabric
- Notions according to pattern
- 20", 16", or 14" pillow form
At Your Sewing Machine
Follow the instructions for pattern M4410, View A, but omit the contrasting 'drape'. Loop fringe was substituted for the suggested cording, following the same construction technique.
Hints and Tips
Explore the wide variety of decorator trims available. For the easiest-to-sew trim, look for flat trims with a woven edge that can be sewn without the need for a zipper or cording foot. Fancy loop trims, like we used here, are purchased off the bolt with a line of chain stitch to control the loops. Once you've sewn the fringe in place, remove the chain stitch and fluff the loops.
Bullion fringe is another easy-to-sew choice. With a fringe of twisted cords, it makes a dramatic finish for any decorating project.
